5 MUST DO ACTIVITIES ON A RAINY DAY IN NYC
1. BRUNCH
Regardless of the weather, every day in NYC starts with brunch. My pick on a rainy day is Sara Beth’s. With its perfectly pressed white table clothes and the delicate sound of clinking crystal glasses, this serene Upper East Side brunch spot makes you forget about the wild weather outside. Nestle into a booth and warm up with a hot chocolate (or something with more of a kick – like one of their incredible spicy Bloody Mary’s). The poached egg and burrata on smashed avocado and sourdough is the perfect combination of luxury and satisfaction. Or opt for a classic like the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs.
2. GO SEE A MOVIE
Going to the Paris Cinema is a perfect rainy day activity in New York City. Cosy in at this quaint single screen movie theatre, which showcases an array of current titles as well as art and foreign films. As Carrie Bradshaw said one of the most amazing things about New York is that any time of the week you can go to Paris. So, taking heed from my favourite fictional New Yorker, that we did.
3. TAKE IN THE VIEW
For an alternative view of NYC hop on the Roosevelt Island Tramway. Located on the corner of East 60th and 2nd Ave, the red cable cars transport you on a 7 minute journey to Roosevelt Island. It’s a really great way to see a different view of the Manhattan skyline and as a bonus it’s completely sheltered. You should really only try this out for the novelty of taking the cable car, as there is pretty much nothing to do on Roosevelt Island. It is a fun activity though. If you’d rather try this out on a clear day make sure you go at sundown for a beautiful sunset one way and on the return watch the city light up as night falls.
4. GO SHOPPING
The Westfield World Trade Centre shopping mall is the recently opened outlet next to the 9/11 Memorial. Shaped like a dove this stunning building is worth a visit even to just appreciate the architecture nevermind the retail therapy element. Over five hundred thousand square feet, this building is as impressive as its selection of stores inside.
5. COSY IN
My favourite ever stumble upon in NYC. The Marlton Hotel lobby is the perfect place to warm up on a cold, blustery day. Grab yourself a seat in front of their roaring fire and order some coffees from their amazing little espresso bar and a couple of glasses of red wine from the bar. This is the perfect cosy location to work or just snuggle up with a good book. The staff are friendly and there’s no time limit on how long you spend here whilst you wait for the harsh New York weather to pass.
